The Boat: 77' Schooner
Liberté was custom-built to safely and comfortably carry passengers on sailing excursions around Cape Cod. Commissioned in 2001, she is inspected annually by the U.S. Coast Guard and is certified to carry up to 49 passengers.
Her design is based on the Hout Bay 70 by Dudley Dix, originally conceived as a two-masted, gaff-rigged schooner intended to be a heavy yet fast offshore cruiser. Liberté’s design was extensively modified to suit passenger service. Rather than the original two-mast configuration, Liberté features a three-masted staysail rig, which allows for easier sail handling, greater flexibility under varying conditions, and a more comfortable sailing experience for guests. Her full bar and spacious deck make every sail a relaxing and comfortable occasion.
The experience:
We set sail promptly after leaving Falmouth Harbor and depending on the wind and tide we may head towards Nobska Lighthouse, Martha's Vineyard, or Falmouth Heights. Every sail is unique and beautiful. Spacious decks allow seating for up to 49 passengers. A cash bar onboard allows guests to enjoy a drink underway (BYOB prohibited!). For a private charter you are welcome to bring light bites or a full catered meal, please message us for suggestions on which foods work best. Children are welcome. There is no onsite parking. Departure times might be flexible. Message us for availability.
The Crew
Captain Ross was raised on the Caribbean island, Bequia. His father was a skipper and he started working on sailboats as a teenager. In 2012 he left the West Indies to take a job on an Alden schooner in Maine.
While in Maine, Ross met Kate, who shared his love of sailing and travel. After a decade working aboard boats together, they purchased Liberté in 2025 from Chris and Jane Tietje. Now based in Falmouth with their two young daughters, Ross and Kate operate Liberté with the support of a highly experienced crew—many of whom have sailed aboard her for years.
