Fly Fishing FL runs a 1996 Maverick Mirage Flats boat (beautifully restored in 2023), based out of Punta Gorda. She can take up to two guests and is powered by a new four-stroke Yama engine. The 70 HP outboard offers a maximum cruising speed of 35 knots and a hydraulic engine jack for access to the shallow flats.

The vessel is equipped with a live bait well, which can also be used for additional cold storage. She sports a GPS plotter/fishfinder combo, which also provides regional information via satellite, such as weather, tides, marinas, and waterfront restaurants.  Her most important feature is the ability to run and float in just over a foot of water.  This offers her guests an incredible view of local marine life and the sea floor.

Your captain, Roger Gendron, is an Orvis-endorsed fishing guide with over 30 years' experience and is a certified "Florida Friendly" eco-conscious guide by the University of Florida. He specializes in shallow water and backcountry fishing, where guests will enjoy the serenity and beauty of the mangrove jungles of Charlotte Harbor, Southwest Florida.

Optional add-ons include drinks and lunch (lunch is available by advanced request at an additional cost). There's a super cooler with ice provided for your drinks and complimentary bottled water. Onboard policies allow alcohol, but no glass containers, please. All trips are non-smoking.

You will find all the Coast Guard-required safety equipment onboard, as well as a chart plotter, depth finder/sonar, VHF radio, and dry storage for your convenience.

Step aboard and enjoy the sights, or experience a delightful blend of excitement and relaxation—book your trip now!

I started guiding the waters of Western Long Island Sound in 1989. As a local who has spent most of my life in that area, I began fishing the coast of Fairfield County Connecticut 45 years ago and was one of the first guides in the area to specialize in fly and light tackle fishing in shallow salt water. As well as teaching fly fishing and light tackle fishing techniques for over 3 decades, I also taught boat handling and navigation for private clientele and Boat Clubs of Fairfield County, CT. Now I practice my crafts on Charlotte Harbor and the surrounding waterways here in Southwest Florida. Throughout my career I've been a pro staffer for Ranger Boats, Action Craft Boats, Yamaha, Sage Fly rods, Nautilus reels, Rio fly lines and St. Croix rods. I enjoy tying salt water flies and writing essays on the topic of fishing and guiding and several of my articles have been published by Coastal Angler Magazine.
