- Background
- I grew up on boats. My summer home was on a wooden 32' Pacemaker that my dad owned from the time I was a toddler until my college years. As a teenager, my cousin and I shared a 17' Montauk Boston Whaler which we would take offshore to the extent of its range and do all sorts of fishing, waterskiing and just cruising around Barnegat Bay. That boat remained in my family long enough to teach my own kids how to fish off of it. For longer tuna and shark trips, I would run my father's 36' Delta and more recently, his 42' Post. My current boat is a Wellcraft 230 Coastal, which is a perfect boat for both day cruising, riverside restaurant trips, fireworks on the water and inshore fishing. I started running charter fishing trips in 2024 and had an amazingly successful first season. A few of my clients asked about evening cruises and fireworks trips, so I decided to offer them for season two. My cousin and I always had a saying when we were out on that old Whaler: "When you're out on the water, there are only good days and great days!"
- Techniques
- Personally, I just love being out on the water. My favorite activity is fishing. There's nothing quite as relaxing as casting a line out during a slow drift. Other activities I enjoy are anchoring up near an island or scenic area and just relaxing, listening to some tunes and getting some sun. Fireworks cruises are always a hit, and I really enjoy giving tours of the area to those from out of town. The Jersey Shore has some pretty cool history, and I've learned a lot of it. Want a close-up view of the island that Robert Louis Stevenson christened "Treasure Island" in 1888, five years after he wrote his classic novel? That's just one of many neat things to see and learn about while enjoying the calm Manasquan River and Barnegat Bay.
